Getting Sued Because You Owe Money

If someone starts a case to collect a debt from you by filing a Complaint, you can file a document called an Answer stating what you think the court should order. If you don’t file the Answer within 20 days of getting the Complaint, you risk the other side getting a default judgment against you, which means the judge decides based only on the other side's Complaint.
